I don’t know if in the 3 months after you posted your question you received other answers or run some a camp on it. Anyway, I am very much interested in this topic, if you still are as well, please keep in touch.

Comment on Embedded Librarians by Mark Long http://florida2011.thatcamp.org/02/16/embedded-librarians/#comment-11 Thu, 17 Feb 2011 14:29:24 +0000 http://florida2011.thatcamp.org/?p=159#comment-11 I think this is a great program and am just beginning to implement it in my online classes this semester for the first time. I look forward to learning more about it and discussing strategies to make it work for all my students, not just the proactive ones who are likely to engage with a Librarian on their own anyway.

My final conclusion was that it was fine to do so, obviously, but not without hesitation. We can also talk about technical solutions (in my case, within WordPress) for dealing with the potential complications that arise.

For instance, I use an outside wiki pretty extensively (pbworks). Students upload work, and I make comments on their work on the wiki itself. The grade, though, goes in the MyUCF tool. I can imagine the same thing working for blogs or other tools as well. We used Glogster last term, and did the same thing there.

I am particularly interested in thinking about other applications and, of course, learning about the toys, err…, tools involved that make it work.

However, one concern that I hear frequently from the Administration perspective is FERPA considerations. I would be interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts about this.

But I still want to have timed exams with written components. I don’t know of a better way to do that outside of Blackboard.

So yes, going outside of its limited capabilities is something I’m interested in as well.
